Dorchester Men's Shed have built two brand new replacement bridges across the Winterbourne Canal.
The work was achieved during the organisation’s twice weekly sessions over a period of two months using drawings for the original bridges which were constructed over twenty five years ago.
Both bridges were opened by Dorchester Town Mayor, David Taylor, who said
“Dorchester Men’s Shed came together for people who want company, to make friends, learn skills and who now produce phenomenal work like this! All over Dorchester people are seeing what you do, and for this you should be immensely proud of your achievements.”
Rob Mott visited Kingston Maurward College upon the opening, by the Mayor of Dorchester, of a new bridge built over a tributary of the River Frome by members of Men’s Shed who’s workshop is hosted by the college.
Just to let you know we had an excellent article in the Echo on Saturday.

Our local community workshop is under threat.
The Dorchester Men's Shed provides woodwork classes to men and women to help prevent loneliness and provide social interaction. The Shed is based at Whitfield, a site which is leased by Future Roots from the NHS.
Future Roots, which runs the County Men's Club and providing outdoor countryside activities to young people with disabilities or who are struggling in school or in life generally, are trying to purchase the site from the NHS for an agreed price of £175,000.
So far they've raised pledges of £50,000 towards this purchase and are seeking funding from others for the remaining £125,000. No other potential funders have come forward and the NHS have given Future Roots until mid-July to raise the funds.
Failure to secure the site will mean that the Dorchester Men's Shed will need to relocate and rebuild their workshop. In addition the Countrymen will lose their allotments and greenhouses; the facilities for training children and adults will be lost to the community.
We're now asking people to pledge towards the £125,000 urgently required. This will enable Future Roots and the Dorchester Men's Shed to continue to expand the facilities which help loneliness and provide space for groups of like-minded people to get together that help to prevent mental health issues in later life.
If you are able to make a pledge towards the target sum, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
